Emma's Graduation

There has been so much stuff going on the past week with the kids that I feel like I've been neglecting all of the other areas in my life - the house, my other job, this blog...my birthday was last weekend and I didn't even make mention of it. I wouldn't change a thing though.

Yesterday I had a long fun-filled day as I chaperoned Anika's 5th grade class to an all day field trip in Portland (I'm working on that post now!). Then afterwards we got everything ready and headed over to Emma's Kindergarten graduation. It was a packed gymnasium filled with family members cheering the 60-something students on as they sang, danced, and then walked the infamous walk up to receive their diplomas.

One of my favorite parts about Kindergarten graduations is hearing what all of them want to be when they grow up. This year I heard a lot of police officers and firefighters, as well as some teachers and cooks. There was a cheerleader, and then a few cute ones. One girl wanted to be a smoothie maker who works at home, and another wanted to be an artist and horse rider.

My Emma wanted to be a mom.

That made my heart melt. No it's not a doctor or teacher or chef...but the fact that she wants to be a mom makes me feel like I'm doing something right. All of the ups and downs we go through together and mistakes that we all make....just the fact that she wants to be like me brings a huge smile on my face and tears to my eyes.

I'm not ready for Emma to be in first grade already, but if there's one thing you can't change it's time. So I'm vowing to make as many memories that I can this summer with the kids, because come September I'll have Anika in middle school as well.... and this summer is the last one before they each grow up a little bit more.
