Zootopia Makes for a Fun Family Movie Night

Last Monday I took the kids to a preview of Zootopia. We don't go see many movies all together because the kids all have such a big age gap (7 years between Anika and Noah) so we don't all find movies that really entertain the whole family. Zootopia pretty much accomplishes it.

Zootopia is Walt Disney Animation Studio's 55th animated feature. The movie is set in a different time where animals are all modern and civilized. Judy Hopps is a rabbit who grew up on a carrot farm and had always dreamed of becoming a cop in the city of Zootopia. Problem was, no rabbit had ever become a cop before.

The story takes on her journey, ending up as a cop, or rather a glorified parking lady downtown. She learns that animals are not always what you think, meaning that stereotyping happens even in the civilized animal world.

Desperate to be recognized as a real cop, Judy signs up to crack a case that no one else will, and viewers are left to watch the mystery unfold.

I was entertained throughout the movie, as was my 12 and 8 year old. We saw the movie in 3D, so my 5 year old said a couple parts were scary - mainly wild animals jumping out. The movie had a good underlying message to kids that you can be whatever you want to be as well as not to judge someone just because of their appearance.

I think Zootopia is a good family friendly movie that will keep kids and preteens entertained.

Are you going to go see it this weekend? Let us know what you thought of the movie in the comments below! :)
